What to recite when visiting the sick

During your visit utilize your time fruitfully by reciting Quran Shareef, Tasbeeh etc.

Recite Surah Kaafiroon, Ikhlaas, Falaq and Naas followed by Dua

Recite Surah Yaseen and make Dua

Recite Surah Fatiha and make dua. One may also recite Surah Faatiha 7 times and blow on the sick person.

Recite this Dua 7 times:

أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ الْعَظِيمَ رَبَّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ أَنْ يَشْفِيَكَ (مشكاة المصابيح، الرقم: 1553 ، سنن أبي داود، الرقم: 3156)

“I ask Allah most great, the lord of the magnificent throne to cure you.”

Place your right hand on the sick person and recite this Dua

أَذْهِبِ الْبَاسَ رَبَّ النَّاسِ وَاشْفِ أَنْتَ الشَّافِي لَا شِفَاءَ إِلَّا شِفَاؤُكَ شِفَاءً لَا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا (مشكاة المصابيح، الرقم: 1530، صحيح مسلم، الرقم: 2191)

“Oh Lord of the people, remove the difficulty. Grant cure, for indeed you are the sole curer. There is no cure save your cure. Grant such a cure after which there is no sickness.”

Also recite the following Duas:

اللَّهُمَّ اشْفِ عَبْدَكَ يَنْكَأُ لَكَ عَدُوًّا أَوْ يَمْشِي لَكَ إِلَى جَنَازَةٍ (مشكاة المصابيح، الرقم: 1556، سنن أبي داود، الرقم: 3107)

“Oh Allah! Cure your servant so that he may fight against your enemy or so that he may take part in a Janaazah for your pleasure.”

رَبُّنَا اللَّهُ الَّذِي فِي السَّمَاءِ تَقَدَّسَ اسْمُكَ أَمرك فِي السَّمَاء وَالْأَرْض كَمَا أَنَّ رَحْمَتَكَ فِي السَّمَاءِ فَاجْعَلْ رَحْمَتَكَ فِي الْأَرْضِ اغْفِرْ لَنَا حُوبَنَا وَخَطَايَانَا أَنْتَ رَبُّ الطَّيِبِينَ أَنْزِلْ رَحْمَةً مِنْ رَحْمَتِكَ وَشِفَاءً مِنْ شِفَائِكَ عَلَى هَذَا الْوَجَعِ (مشكاة المصابيح، الرقم: 1555، سنن أبي داود، الرقم: 3892)

“Our Lord is Allah who is in the sky. Your name is sacred. Your rule is on both the earth and the sky. Just as your mercy is in the sky, send down your mercy onto the earth as well. Forgive our major and minor sins. You are the lord of all those who are pure. Send down a mercy from your mercy and a cure from your cure upon this ailment.” 

Recite the six Aayaat of Shifa and blow on the sick person. The six Aayat of shifa are as follows:

وَيَشْفِ صُدُورَ قَوْمٍ مُّؤْمِنِينَ (التوبة: 14) وَشِفَاءٌ لِّمَا فِي الصُّدُورِ (اليونس: 57) يَخْرُجُ مِن بُطُونِهَا شَرَابٌ مُّخْتَلِفٌ أَلْوَانُهُ فِيهِ شِفَاءٌ لِّلنَّاسِ (النحل: 69) وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ مَا هُوَ شِفَاءٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ (الاسراء: 82) قُلْ هُوَ لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا هُدًى وَشِفَاءٌ (فصلت: 44) وَإِذَا مَرِضْتُ فَهُوَ يَشْفِينِ (الشعر اء: 80)

Say يَا حَلِيمُ، يَا كَرِيمُ، اشْفِ فُلَانًا and in place of فُلَانًا say the name of the person[1]

Make Dua by taking the 99 names of Allah. It has been proven that duas are accepted after reciting the 99 names of Allah. (Click here to view the 99 names of Allah)

Supplicate for good when visiting the sick or the deceased because the angels say Aameen[2]
